In the afternoon of January 11th, 2016, within the framework of the visit of the Australian business delegation in Danang at the recommendation of Dr. Lee E. J. Styger, Director of the EMBA program of Sydney Business School, Wollongong University, Australia, Danang Investment Promotion Center hosted a business networking session for Australian and Danang enterprises. More than 35 Australian businessmen and representatives of Danang departments and businesses participated in the event.
To strengthen and reinforce the bilateral relationship, Vietnam and Australia established the comprehensive partnership in September, 2009. During the visit to Australia in March, 2015, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and Prime Minister Tony Abbott agreed to expand and deepen the relationship between the two countries, especially accelerating the trade and investment relationship and creating the best conditions for businesses'operation. Consequently, the relationship between Danang and Australian cities also flourished. Regarding investment, Australia currently has 22 FDI projects in Danang with a total registered capital of more than USD 9.8 million. The number of Australian visitors also rose sharply, almost tripling from 6,910 visitor arrivals in 2011 to more than 17,471 arrivals in 2014. In 2016, with Vietnam's rapid economic development and greater global integration, especially the signing of TPP, which Vietnam and Australia are both members, Danang expected to receive more trade and investment from Australian businesses.
In the Q&A session, Australian businesses raised many questions regarding the role of EWEC in quickening the regional economic development; Danang's ICT infrastructure development plans and its impact on Danang's economic – tourism growth; the use of media to promote Danang's investment, trade and tourism opportunities; tax, insurance, labor policies and incentives for foreign investors in Danang… Representatives of Australian businesses in Danang also shared the reasons to choose Danang as their investment destination, tips and advice on doing business in the city, Danang's transformation over time, challenges as well as opportunities for potential Australian investors wishing to initiate their business in Danang in the upcoming time.
