Within the framework of the business trip of the Danang delegation to European countries led by Mr. Van Huu Chien, Deputy Party Secretary, Chairman of Danang People's Committee, on August 25th, 2014, at Varna City's headquarter, the leaders of the two cities signed the MOU on strengthening the bilateral friendship. Accordingly, Danang and Varna pledged to improve the cooperation in such fields as marine economy, tourism, transportation, hi-tech industry and new materials-based manufacturing. In addition, the both sides agreed to organize cultural exchange trips between the two cities, and support each other in education and training.
As the third largest city, only after Capital Sofia and Plovdiv, and as the biggest coastal city in Bulgaria with a population of 334,870 people, Varna has many similarities with Danang. In 2007, Varna was also voted the most liveable city in Bulgaria. Currently, the city is striving to become the Cultural Center of Europe in 2017, and the Youth Center of Europe in 2019. Varna identifies tourism – service, finance – banking, and hi-tech industry as its key economic sectors generating huge and sustainable income for the city.
In the afternoon of August 26th, the Deputy Prime Minister of Bulgaria hosted a meeting with the delegation of Danang City. She highly appreciated the visit and the cooperative agreement between Danang and Varna and committed to support the implementation of the agreements signed by the two cities.
