The seminar attracted nearly 35 delegates who are leaders of city departments, organizations, associations, enterprises and investors throughout the city, as well as a high-level delegation led by Comrade Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Vietnam to pay a visit to Da Nang.
On the opening speech, Ms. Huynh Lien Phuong, Deputy Chief of Office of Da Nang City People's Committee, emphasized that the relationship between Vietnam and Cuba has been constantly strengthened and developed in all aspects. Vietnam is Cuba's second largest trading partner in Asia and the largest foreign investor in Cuba in the Asia-Pacific region. Da Nang always attaches great importance to enhancing multi-sector cooperation with Cuban localities through visits of the city's leaders to Cuba in 2016, 2018 and 2024, in addition to welcoming Cuban delegations to visit Da Nang. The seminar "Investment promotion and business connection between Da Nang and Cuba" is the clearest demonstration of implementing activities to promote economic, trade and investment cooperation between Da Nang and Cuba. Both sides have a lot of potential to expand cooperation in the upcoming time, especially in highly advantageous areas that are in need, such as industrial production, agriculture, food processing, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical services, construction, tourism, v.v. to meet the sustainable development requirements of the two countries.
Comrade Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba in Vietnam, affirmed that on the basis of the special Cuba-Vietnam solidarity relationship, he wishes to further strengthen investment and trade promotion activities between Cuban and Da Nang enterprises in the future.
At the seminar, Mr. Abel Alejandro Rivero Ochoa, Director of the Mariel Special Economic Zone (ZEDM) Office, introduced investment opportunities nd policy incentives of the Special Economic Zone. This is the first and only special economic zone in Cuba with an investment of about 900 million USD. Currently, there are 21 countries investing in the Mariel Special Economic Zone (ZEDM), of which Vietnam contributes 7 projects, ranking 2nd after Spain in terms of the number of FDI projects.
In the following session, Cuban enterprises such as ILIMPEX Industrial Import-Export Company specialized in industrial goods trading, C37 Company operating in the field of e-commerce for Cuba’s light industry, engaged in discussions and networking activities with other Cuban and Da Nang businesses.
Within the seminar, IPA also delivered an overview of the investment environment and opportunities in Da Nang City. The city’s economic development strategy is centered around three main pillars: tourism, high-tech industry, and the maritime economy; in which focusing on investment and development in 5 key sectors, including high-quality tourism and services associated with resort real estate; seaports and airports associated with logistics services; high-tech industry associated with the development of a creative and start-up urban environment; information technology, electronics and telecommunications associated with the digital economy; high-tech agriculture and fisheries. Da Nang aims to become a major, smart, creative, distinctive, and sustainable urban center by 2045—emerging as one of the leading socio-economic hubs in Vietnam and the Southeast Asian.. /.
