At the meeting, Permanent Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Ho Ky Minh expressed his pleasure to receive the US Ambassador to Viet Nam Marc E. Knapper to pay a working visit to Da Nang. He urged the US Ambassador to promote stronger cooperation between the two sides in the field of semiconductor industry. Mr. Ho Ky Minh informed that semiconductor industry had been identified as the city's breakthrough growth driver in the coming time and Da Nang City was making great efforts to prepare the necessary conditions to attract potential investors.
The short-term orientation for the development of the city's semiconductor industry will focus on designing, packaging and testing based on 03 main foundations, including infrastructure, human resources, mechanisms and preferential policies. Proactively navigate a strategic plan to develop semiconductor industry, the city authority has organized human resource development workshop; sent a delegation to the US to work with leading corporations in the industry; as well as entered into an MoU with Synopsys to promote the training of semicondutor workforce. Especially, recently, the city has established Da Nang Semiconductor and AI Center with the function of carrying out research and design training activities in the field of IC, semiconductor and artificial intelligence development; boosting technology transfer, international cooperation; mobilizing investment resources and cooperating with domestic and foreign partners. Mr. Minh expressed his hope that US Ambassador to Viet Nam Marc E. Knapper would support Da Nang to strengthen cooperation with US semiconductor corporation and establishing an ATP center (Assembling, Testing, Packaging).
Ambassador Marc E. Knapper informed the host that since Viet Nam and the US established a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for peace, cooperation and sustainable development, the US Government had quickly constructed an Action Plan to support Viet Nam in developing the semiconductor chip industry. He said that many US businesses were optimistic about the prospects of this field in Vietnam and hoped that Viet Nam would be able to take full advantage of the opportunities. To realize the goal of building Da Nang into an attractive investment destination in the field of semiconductor in Viet Nam, the city needs to synchronously deploy solutions to form a semiconductor ecosystem, including investing in education and training, developing high-quality human resources, developing modern infrastructure and improving access to renewable energy sources. The US Ambassador to Viet Nam highly appreciated the efforts of the Da Nang city authourity in building a strategy to develop the field of semiconductor chips, especially the close cooperation with training institutions to prepare human resources to serve this market. The Ambassador affirmed that he was always willing to support Da Nang in cooperating with US partners in all aspects such as government - government, business - business, university – university, support provinces in Viet Nam in general and Da Nang in particular to move up Viet Nam in the global semiconductor value chain.
At the meeting, representatives of universities in Da Nang also expressed their willingness to cooperate with US partners on delivering semiconductor courses in order to realize the city’s goal of training 10,000 staff for the sector by 2030.
