Deputy Minister of Information and Telecommunications Phan Tam and Vice Chairman of Da Nang People’s Committee Tran Phuoc Son co-chaired the Forum in Ha Noi and Da Nang with in-person and virtual participation of numerous tech giants such as VNPT, Viettel, FPT, LG, DITP, etc and also other potential Korean enterprises and investors.
The event aims to showcase potentials, advantages, preferential and investment support policies and investment cooperations of Da Nang to RoK businesses and investors, especially in ICT, and high technology. The Forum is also held to commemorate the 29th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Korea (22/12/1992 - 22/12/2021).
Addressing the Forum, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Phan Tam noted that “sustainable and rapid development based on science and technology, innovation and digital transformation” would lay the foundation for 10-year Socio-economic Development Strategy for 2021-2030 and 5-year Socio-economic Development Plan for 2021-2025 of Viet Nam. Currently, Viet Nam is among the world’s top 10 exporters of electronic products, ranks second in smartphone shipments, and comes ninth in software outsourcing. Its strategy in the coming time is to transform from a destination for outsourcing and assembling to a product manufacturer and service provider. Mr. Phan Tam likened Da Nang as a “Silicon Valley of Southeast Asia” and believed with its advantages, the city would become an investment destination of global tech cooperations.
Speaking at the Forum, Vice Chairman of Da Nang People’s Committee Tran Phuoc Son highlighted that RoK was one of the key markets of the city’s investment promotion activities. The leader of Da Nang City expressed his appreciation for the contribution of Korean investors to the socio-economic development of the city and the growing relationship between the two nations. He said that the city hoped to generate $2.34 billion in ICT revenue by 2025 and the industry would make up 15 percent of its total GRDP by 2030. To realize this target, Da Nang Government has been making efforts to improve its infrastructure, high-quality human resources and living environment to attract investments into infrastructure, data and smart applications.
Consul General of RoK in Da Nang Ahn Min Sik and President of KOTRA in Southeast Asia-Oceania Lee Jong Seob both had high opinion of Da Nang’s development in the field of ICT. They believed that with the commitment and efforts of the city government in improving the investment and business environment, more Korean investors would choose Da Nang as an investment destination.
Discussion topics at the Forum included the current status and development strategy of Vietnam's ICT industry; Korean FDI in Viet Nam in general and Korean ICT investments in Vietnam in particular; Da Nang city's investment incentives and supporting policies in the field of ICT.

As of November 2021, Korea ranks 5th in terms of registered investment capital of 378.14 million USD over 233 valid projects. IT is one of the key areas that Da Nang city is focusing on calling for Korean investors. |
