In his remarks at the event, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung highly appreciated the great efforts of the leaders and staff of the Da Nang Port Joint Stock Company in fulfilling their assigned tasks over the past year.
Vice Chairman Dung hoped that the port would continue securing its position as the large port in the central region, and one of major and modern ports in Viet Nam in the coming time. This would help to ensure the rapid growth and sustainable development of the city in order to meet the requirements in the fiercely competitive context of the market economy.
Mr Dung also urged the port to exploit new and potential markets such as in Northeast Laos, Cambodia, and Southeast Asia.
The Company’s General Director, Mr Nguyen Huu Sia said that last year the total volume of cargo transported through the port hit a total of over 8.6 million tons, including 365,000 TEUs, up 7.2% against 2017.
In addition, the Da Nang Port welcomed 109 cruise and military ships, a rise of 31.33% against 2017, carrying a total of 183,582 passengers and crew members on board. Moreover, the port entered into a total of 73 long-term and 14 transport contracts over the last year.
