On the occasion of the business trip to Japan, the Danang City mission led by Vice Chairman Tran Van Mien attended the 12th Asia-Pacific Cities Summit in Fukuoka, Japan. The theme of this conference is "Sustainable Cities and Communities" in line with the 17 sustainable development goals initiated by the United Nations. Attending the conference were 36 cities of 18 countries in the region, including three cities of Vietnam: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Nang. Speaking at the meeting of the UN Deputy-General Secretariat to the United Nations, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Rights Organization, representatives from international organizations, cities and enterprises emphasize their important role of Cities in driving economic growth and development for each country to achieve sustainable development goals. Thus, in the context of globalization and constant development of information technology and the Internet, cities, together with international organizations and the business community, should strive to innovate, create, connect and share practical experience in addressing a wide range of social and environmental challenges that arise in the process of urbanization and the establishment of new global networks.
On the same day, the mission had a meeting with the Kyushu Economic Federation. The Kyushu region is located in southwestern Japan with 13 million inhabitants, accounting for 10% of Japan's area and GDP. The gross domestic product of the region is equivalent to the size of Thailand. Key economic sectors of the Kyushu region include automotive and spare parts; semiconductor, electronic and communication products; energy / environment; pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, health; food processing and tourism. Established in 1961, the Kyushu Economic Federation has 11 subcommittees tasked with researching and proposing activities and policies to address the issues that Kyushu region is facing, organizing exchange programs with other countries, promote the export of goods produced in the region into the markets in Asia, and tourism.
At the meeting, Vice Chairman of Da Nang People's Committee Tran Van Mien thanked Yukata Aso, Chairman of Kyushu Economic Federation for their working visit in Da Nang in March 2018, requesting the Federation to continue supporting to invite member enterprises to explore the investment opportunities in the city in the coming time. Mr. Yutaka Aso highly appreciated the socio-economic achievements of Da Nang city in recent years and affirmed that many members of the Federation were interested in investment opportunities in the city and agreed to coordinate with Da Nang Investment Promotion Agency to hold a seminar to attract investment to the city in Fukuoka in 2019.
