In the afternoon of August 2nd, 2016, Mr. Ho Ky Minh, Vice Chairman of Danang People's Committee, hosted a meeting with Hong Kong Logistics Business Delegation led by Mr. Willy Lin – Chairman of the Hong Kong Shippers' Council. The delegation aimed to learn about the investment environment and opportunities in the city in various fields, particularly in logistics.
At the meeting, Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh briefly introduced the city's socio-economic achievements, advantages, and especially the current logistics infrastructure. Located in the center of Vietnam, Danang lies on the north-south communication axis of land, sea, rail and air routes and acts as the gateway of the East-West Economic Corridor. Therefore, the city has great potentials for developing logistics activities. Danang has Tien Sa deep-water seaport with a capacity of more than 7 million DWT. The port capacity will be increased to 10 million DWT by 2018. The city is also calling for investment to develop Lien Chieu Port. A new terminal has been constructed at Danang International Airport and is anticipated to complete in 2017, expecting to serve 13 million passengers in 2020.
At the discussion, the delegation raised various questions relating to the city's priority sectors; development plans for manufacturing sector; air cargo potential growth; Vietnam's law regulating the establishment of foreign-invested enterprises in the field of logistics, etc… These concerns were responded by leaders of the relevant departments. On behalf of the delegation, Mr. Willy Lin thanked the city leaders for their hospitality and invited the city leaders and Danang businesses to participate in the Asia Logistics and Maritime Conference held in Hong Kong in November 2016.
After the meeting the Hong Kong delegation also worked with Danang Transportation Association./.
