In the morning of June 03rd, 2016, within the framework of the visit of British Consul General in Danang in October 2015, in order to enhance the trade and investment relationships with British partners, Danang People's Committee coordinated with British General Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, the British Business Group Vietnam (BBGV) and UK Trade and Investment in Vietnam (UKTI) to host the Workshop on Opportunities for Economic Cooperation between Danang and the United Kingdom. Mr. Ian Gibbons – British Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Ken Atkinson – Chairman of BBGV Vietnam, representatives of city departments and British businesses operating in Vietnam and Danang as well as local businesses seeking potential British partners participated in the Workshop.
Speaking at the Workshop, Consul General Ian Gibbons expressed that he had very positive impressions of Danang for being a young and dynamic city with modern infrastructure and beautiful sceneries. The United Kingdom considered Vietnam as one of its principal partners in Southeast Asia, and Danang with its strategic location in the center of Vietnam had great potentials for cooperation with British companies and organizations in various fields such as trade, investment and education. BBGV Chairman Ken Atkinson also affirmed his confidence in the cooperative relationships between British businesses and Danang businesses. He was also very delighted that there were more and more British alumni coming back and working in Danang to deepen the understanding of both sides.
At the Workshop, leaders of Danang Investment Promotion Center, Danang Hi-tech Park Management Board and Danang Entrepreneurship Support Company introduced about the investment environment, opportunities and projects calling for investment in the city, infrastructure and incentives of Danang Hi-tech Park, and the city's start-up ecosystem. In the coming time, on the occasion of Danang's participation in 2015-2016 Clipper Race, the city plans to organize more investment, trade and tourism promotion activities to attract more British investors to the city.
During the Q&A section, representatives of British businesses also stated that Danang had competitive advantages in such fields as ICT, hi-tech industries, and medical tourism thanks to its qualified human resources, ideal location and sustainable development plan. They also raised many questions related to the city's port and logistics center development plan, offices and facilities for rent, tax incentives for angel investors, visa procedures for British investors as well as supports for businesses' risk management…
Within the Workshop, the Signing Ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between BBGV and Danang Hi-tech Park Management Board also took place. The MOU aims at strengthening cooperation in investment promotion in the field of high technologies and attracting British investors to Danang and Danang Hi-Tech Park; providing business supports and human resource training...
In recent years, the cooperative and friendly relationship between Danang and cities in the United Kingdom has achieved many accomplishments, especially in trade and investment. As of May 2016, there were about 10 British FDI projects in Danang with the total investment capital of more than USD 1.6 million. In 2015, the Danang – UK's import – export turnover was estimated at USD 30.3 million with export turnover of USD 30 million.
