Danang is one of the first localities in Vietnam to establish the first industrial zones (IZ). After Danang IZ (previously known as An Don IZ) was established in 1995 with an area of 68.32ha, other IZs were planned and developed including Hoa Khanh IZ ( 423.5ha in 1997), Lien Chieu IZ (373ha in 1997), Hoa Cam IZ (137ha in 2003), Expanded Hoa Khanh IZ (216.52ha in 2004), and Danang Seafood Processing Zone (57.99ha in 2006).
As of 2015, the total planned area of Danang IZs was 1,066.52 ha, and the fill-up rate was 85.01%, among them, 02 IZs were fully occupied. There were 74,000 workers working in IZs, and in 2015, companies in IZs contributed more than VND5,000 billion to the city budget. However, the remaining available land in IZs consists mainly of scattered and fragmented plots, making it difficult to attract medium and big projects. Meanwhile, Danang Hi-tech Park is still in the early stage of development with incomplete infrastructure and is not ready for investors to implement their projects.
Therefore, to encourage investors to expand their production and attract new investment projects in IZs, the Chairman of Danang People's Committee has agreed in principle to develop new IZs in Danang over the period of 2016 – 2020. Danang Industrial and Processing Zone Authority shall preside and coordinate with Department of Construction and other related departments to study and choose appropriate sites to establish new IZs; for IZs that have been included in the city's master plan such as Hoa Nhon Warehouse and Focused Industrial Zone, Chairman of Danang People's Committee assigned Danang Industrial and Processing Zone Authority to continue carrying out the projects according to the proposed roadmap.
Additionally, in order to help businesses overcome difficulties and improve the city's competitiveness, in the middle of June, a meeting between businesses and the city leaders hosted by Mr. Nguyen Xuan Anh, Secretary of the Danang Party Committee, and Mr. Huynh Duc Tho, Chairman of Danang's People's Committee, is expected to take place, incorporating the Dialogue between leaders of People's Committee and the local community and Danang PCI 2016 Seminar.
