Within the framework of FDI investment promotion program in the period of 2013 – 2016 and Danang Business Year 2014, in the afternoon of 28th November, 2014, Investment Promotion Center (IPC Danang) in collaboration with FDI Danang Club held the seminar "Investment Opportunities in Danang City through Mergers and Acquisitions". The Seminar witnessed the participation of Mr. Phung Tan Viet, Vice Chairman of Danang People's Committee, Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan, Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Investment Review and representatives from related departments as well as associations, banks and more than 100 domestic and foreign investors.
It is the first seminar on M&A held in Danang which serves as a forum for city government and enterprises to have an overview of current M&A transactions and investment opportunities in Danang through M&A in the near future. At the seminar, Mr.Johnathan Ooi – Deputy General Director of PricewaterhouseCoopers Vietnam delivered a remark on trends and investment opportunities of M&A activities in Vietnam. He emphasized that along with great effort of the Vietnamese Government in improving the bank system and legal framework, M&A is firmly believed to have a promising future in Vietnam with the total transaction value of US$1.5 billion in the period of 2011-2014. Additonally, the seminar offered the chance for experts to share their experience related to M&A transactions in such sectors as real estate and hospitality in Vietnam in general and Danang in particular.
At the discussion, several businesses also made comments regarding to legal issues, transparency and business valuation as well as investment incentives etc. which have direct impacts on current M&A situation. The participants highly appreciated the effort made by the city authority in bringing great opportunities for businesses to call for investment and seek for partners, and facilitating potential investors to meet, exchange information, look for compatibility and create synery values for both parties. It was expected that there would be more detailed guidelines so that M&A transactions could be conducted in a faster and more effective manner.
