In the morning of October 24th, 2013, in Taipei (Taiwan), Danang City coordinated with Vietnam Economic and Cultural Office (VECO) in Taipei to organize an investment promotion seminar that was chaired by Mr. Phung Tan Viet, Vice Chairman of Danang People's Committee and Mr. Bui Trong Van, Director of VECO in Taipei. Mr. Chiu Yi Chan, Director of the Department of Investment Services of the Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan, and about 70 delegates from associations, enterprises in Taiwan and representatives of Danang's related departments participated in the seminar.
In the opening remarks, Mr. Bui Trong Van, Director of VECO in Taipei, emphasized on the fact that Danang is a dynamic city with huge potentials for future development, comprehensive infrastructure, abundant human resources, and many other favorable conditions to attract investments from Taiwan.
According to Mr. Chiu Yi Chan, Director of the Department of Investment Services (Ministry of Economic Affairs of Taiwan), in the past time, Taiwanese companies did not know much about Danang. Therefore, this Seminar would be a great opportunity for Taiwanese companies to learn more about the city's investment environment. In the coming time, the Department of Investment Services would provide more information for businesses about Vietnam's policies on investment, trade, and currency… Also, the Department would cooperate with the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vietnam, the related agencies and cities/provinces in Vietnam to support existing Taiwanese investors to enhance the bilateral cooperative relationships in the field of trade, investment and technology.
The Taiwanese investors were thoroughly introduced about Danang's socio-economic conditions, development orientation, investment environment, incentive policies and investment opportunities into the city's industrial zones, Hi-tech Park and IT Park. The city also called for investments of Taiwanese businesses in services such as tourism, trade, logistics and finance.
Vice Chairman of Danang People's Committee Phung Tan Viet responded to the issues raised by businesses related to incentive policies on corporate income tax and infrastructure usage fee when investing in Danang Hi-tech Park, regulations on waste water treatment in the industrial zones, labor and visa affairs, and opportunities for market expansion, etc.
A representative of Taiwanese companies doing business in Danang also shared his experience in the seminar. He said that he decided to invest in Danang because of the convenient transportation system, nice and hardworking people, the clean environment and the similarities between Danang and Taiwan's customs and cultures. Additionally, the local government also supported businesses to solve their problems in a timely and effective manner.
On behalf of the city's leader, Vice Chairman Viet affirmed that the city authority would actively support Taiwanese investors during the establishment and implementation of their investment projects in Danang. Also, the city would continue to improve its investment environment to create favorable conditions for businesses to operate and develop sustainably.
According to the statistics of the Ministry of Planning and Investment, as of September 2013, there were 2,262 FDI projects from Taiwan in force with a total registered capital of USD 27.49 billion, ranking 3rd among 100 countries/territories investing in Vietnam, after Japan (USD33.4 billion) and Singapore (USD28.8 billion), creating 1.4 million jobs fo local people.
