IT still leads in recruitment demand
Author: Updated: 31/07/2017 Views: 21

VietnamWorks, the leading job board recruitment website in Vietnam and a member of the Navigos Group Vietnam, released its Report on Recruitment Demand and Labor Supply in Vietnam in the First Half of 2017 on July 28.

Recruitment demand in the first half increased 20 per cent year-on-year and the number of job seekers rose 14 per cent.

IT still leads in recruitment demand, but job seekers in the sector satisfied just 50 per cent of demand. IT enterprises are facing a competitive environment in attracting candidates. The market is short of developers in Java, .Net, Mobile, and PHP. There are new programming languages also lacking in developers, such as Ruby on Rails, Golang, and JavaScript, and related frameworks like ReactJS and NodeJs, despite the high salaries on offer.

According to latest recruitment demand report from Navigos Search, an executive search service belonging to the Navigos Group, the IT industry, especially Data Technology, will grow rapidly over the next three years. Companies in the industry have high recruitment demand for IT engineers in the data processing field and IT engineers with experience in machine learning, part of the artificial intelligence field.

IT companies also face a situation where employees plan to change jobs in the near future. According to the turnover survey for June, 74 per cent of respondents who are IT employees intend to change jobs in the next six months, with just 42 per cent feeling satisfied with their current job.

The Advertising/Communications sector is also facing a labor shortage in the future.

In the first half of this year, the Management/Operation, Electric/Electronic, Building Construction, and Service categories increased in both demand and workforce. However, Advertising/Communications has high demand in recruitment but candidate sources are not showing any signs of growing.

This may be caused by foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows into Vietnam increasing rapidly, leading to competition between local companies and foreign companies and forcing enterprises to invest more in branding activities. Building “Employer Branding” is a main reason for investing in communications campaigns. Forecasts show the sector will face a labor shortage in the future.

Human resources in Manufacturing and Accounting are also lacking in quality, according to Navigos’s research.

Da Nang Software Park No. 1

Bac Ninh and Binh Duong provinces lead in terms of competition in employment, with a rate of 1/42, which means that every candidate in the two provinces has to compete with 42 others to secure a job.

Manufacturing always has high recruitment demand at the senior manager level, while experienced (non-manager) candidates are plentiful, with a high competition rate of 1/50.

Administrative/Assistant and Audit/Accounting lead in terms of competition rates, the result of an excess of fresh graduates compared to actual recruitment demand.

There are 200 universities and colleges providing studies in Audit/Accounting majors in Vietnam. According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the Accounting sector has been on the manpower surplus list for many years.

However, Audit/Accounting is one of hottest majors at universities and colleges because of high salaries and mobility opportunities within the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC). Therefore, the category faces a lack of quality and an excess of quantity, so always leads in terms of competition rate.

Local enterprises tend to recruit experienced candidates who are well-versed in tax law, with few opportunities available for fresh graduates. According to the Navigos Search report on recruitment demand in the second half of 2016, Audit/Accounting is facing the biggest brain drain in Vietnam due to experienced candidates taking opportunities in ASEAN, which presents more obstacles to enterprises in recruiting candidates who meet their requirements.
