On 22/02/2017, Da Nang People's Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho chaired a meeting with H.E. Mr. Christian Berger – German Ambassador to Vietnam and delegates from German associations and organisations on their first official visit to Da Nang with the aim of boosting cooperation relations between Germany and Danang.
At the meeting, Chairman Huynh Duc Tho introduced the achievements of Da Nang in recent years and the city's potentials for economic and social development and foreign investment attraction. He believed the German Embassy would play an essential role in promoting the city to the German business community and proposing them to explore opportunities for cooperation and investment in Da Nang.
Ambassador Christian Berger appreciated the warm reception of the city leaders and was impressed by remarkable development of Da Nang in the past years, especially the beautiful scenery, environment and the government's efforts to build the city. The Ambassador also showed his aspiration to support Danang in promoting the potentials and advantages of the city among German businesses to promote investment and trade relations between Germany and Da Nang.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited and worked with the Investment Promotion Agency to study into details the sectors and projects that are being encouraged to call for investment in Da Nang. Director Le Canh Duong presented the main advantages of the Da Nang to attract foreign investors and provided information on policies and incentives for hi-tech industries that German firms were particularly interested in.
The Ambassador promised to support Da Nang in introducing German companies to explore investment opportunities here and boost more activities to promote bilateral trade and investment relations in the coming time.
By February 2017, Da Nang has attracted 03 German FDI projects with total investment capital of 9.55 million (representing 0.26% of the total capital invested in Da Nang). Export turnover to Germany in 2016 was estimated at 20.5 million, 2.5% higher than 2015. Import from Germany in 2016 also increased by 6.7% with total value of $ 8 million.
